The documentary Miss HIV unearths a growing international conflict of HIV/AIDS policies while following an HIV-positive woman who enters the Miss HIV pageant in Botswana. She sees that African nations are dying of HIV/AIDS, and she wants to break the stigma that keeps it hidden. Controversy arises as a beauty pageant centers on a deadly, sexually transmitted disease.
Miss HIV is written/directed by Jim Hanon (End of the Spear, Beyond the Gates) and narrated by Della Reese (Touched by an Angel) with music from Newsboys, Mr. Del (Three 6 Mafia former member), and Kirk Whalum.
The limited edition DVD is packaged with a 40-page graphic adaptation of Miss HIV by artist Mark Arnold. Special features include a 22-minute film with Newsboys, artist interviews, music videos, and more.
First Lady of Uganda Janet Museveni is using Miss HIV to reignite Uganda’s once-successful campaign, which yielded the greatest reduction of new infections ever recorded by any nation. Sales from MissHIV.com help EthnoGraphic Media provide DVDs free of charge to the Office of the First Lady and any African media outlets to use in AIDS prevention education efforts.
